AlumniU Digital Book Club: Timequake by Kurt Vonnegut, AM'71

kurt-vonnegut-800x600

Beginning Monday, April 30, explore the celebrated writer's final novel.

What if you were forced to relive the last 10 years of your life, but with no ability to alter any of your decisions? This is the premise of Timequake, the final novel published by Kurt Vonnegut. Written in 1997, a decade before Vonnegut’s death, the book looks forward to a mysterious cosmic event in 2001 that winds the clock back to 1991.

“The timequake of 2001 was a cosmic charley horse in the sinews of Destiny. At what was in New York City 2:27 p.m. on February 13th of that year, the Universe suffered a crisis in self-confidence. Should it go on expanding indefinitely? What was the point?”

A freewheeling, semiautobiographical meditation on cosmic destiny and human folly, Timequake will give you plenty to discuss in a special new digital book club experience. Join Vonnegut’s favorite recurring character Kilgore Trout—also featured in Slaughterhouse Five and Breakfast of Champions—along with a group of fellow Maroons to see what the universe has in store.
